The Cultural Heritage Institute runs high-level CPD and postgraduate courses designed to equip learners with professional-standard skills in conservation and management of historic buildings; cultural heritage management; archaeology; retrofitting and regeneration; and research skills. We work with organisations, sector and community groups, and employers to produce industry-ready graduates with skills and real-world experience. From PGCerts to PhDs, our graduates not only thrive in but drive the heritage sector.
Being in Swindon gives us access to some amazing learning resources including Historic England, English Heritage, the National Monuments Archive, The National Trust and Steam – the museum of the Great Western Railway, which are all within a five-minute walk. The Carriage Works provides modern and fully accessible facilities in an innovative learning space calculated to encourage collaboration and interdisciplinary studies. Proximity to the station ensures that our learners and staff can travel sustainably.
"The Carriage Works is a fantastic space that students love to work in. The flexible layout includes a lecture theatre, lab, seminar rooms and great break out spaces. There’s a wonderful buzz in here. It’s the perfect example of useable, beautiful design and heritage space. We have a great relationship with the Carriage Works team, who are always friendly and ready to help." Prof. Cassie Newland, Director CHI
